9/25 Gen-I NOW: Train the Trainers: Native Youth Media Summit

The Native Youth Media Summit is for instructors of youth media programs. Vision Maker Media seeks to provide Native youth with the skills and tools necessary to harness the power of media for Native-driven storytelling and narrative empowerment. VMM has partnered with MIGIZI in designing a Native Youth Media Training Guidebook that will aid instructors in classrooms, after school programs and more.Taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 12-13, at MIGIZI’s new offices at 3017 27th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406, the summit will bring together a diverse collection of teachers, filmmakers, writers and innovators to help educate youth media workers in current media making storytelling for the Native community.

Schedule:

Saturday, October 12: Introduction to the Native Youth Media Guidebook, Best Practices in Youth Media, and a Production Activity Practicum with John Gwinn, Project Director/Media Specialist and Binesikew Means (Oglala Lakota), Social Enterprise/New Media Team from MIGIZI, and joined by Tiana La Point (Sicangu Lakota) filmmaker from In Progress.

Sunday, October 12: Virtual Reality (VR) with Philip A. Sanchez (San Felipe Pueblo), filmmaker and founder of Blurred Media.
