Red Cloud School Visits Center for Native American Youth

Red Cloud Indian School is a Roman Catholic K-12 school located in Pine Ridge, SD on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Red Cloud, as an affiliate with the Jesuit Schools Network, sends high school students to the Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice (IFTJ) held every year in Washington D.C., to learn about social justice issues and advocate for change.

In DC, the students stopped by for a roundtable to learn more about CNAY, our work and the resources we provide. During the discussion, they learned about the organization, the Generation Indigenous (Gen-I) initiative, and the Gen-I National Native Youth Network, and the Gen-I Challenge. We also discussed the Champions for Change program and possible work that we could partner on.

During the discussion students shared about their break out session for this year’s IFTJ Teach-In highlighting the topic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). The main goal of their breakout session was to educate others about the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women in the United States and Canada and to explore the injustice of these cases remaining unsolved or being forgotten.

Thank you to the Red Cloud School for taking the time out of their busy schedule to come visit us and learn more about our work. We wish them the best this year and look forward to their future work.
