This Gen-I Native Opportunities Weekly (NOW) message shares information about the National Institute of Justice American Indian/Alaska Native Student Travel Scholarship Program.
NIJ Student Travel Scholarships enable Native students to explore the intersections of science, criminal justice and public safety by sponsoring 15 students to attend one of three criminal justice-related conferences with all expenses paid. Conference options include the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Orlando; the American Society of Criminology in Atlanta; and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences in Baltimore. Scholarships cover conference registration, round-trip airfare, lodging, ground transportation, baggage fees, and meals.
Applications are due May 18, 2018 11:59 PM EST.
Eligibility: Applicants must:
- Self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native and be enrolled in, affiliated with, or a descendant of a federally recognized tribe;
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application submission;
- Be enrolled full-time at an eligible academic institution;
- Be undergraduate or graduate students studying research or evaluation in STEM fields or the social and behavioral sciences;
- Commit to attending the entire conference, including travel days; and
- Have not previously received a travel scholarship from NIJ under this program.
