2/27 Gen-I NOW: Native Youth & Culture Fund Project Grants

First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) is accepting proposals for its Native Youth and Culture Fund (NYCF) for projects that focus on youth and incorporate culture and tradition to address social issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, mental health or other social issues in Native communities. First Nations expects to award approximately 20 grants of between $5,000 and $19,500 each for projects of no longer than one year in length. The deadline to apply is March 12, 2019.

1/30 Gen-I NOW: Bezos Scholars Program

Each spring, 17 exceptional high school juniors and a supportive educator from their school are selected as Bezos Scholars from around the U.S. and from the African Leadership Academy. After spending a week immersed in learning at the Aspen Ideas Festival, they return home to inspire action by developing a community change project that combines their passion with meeting a defined community need. The program kicks off with an all-expenses paid trip to the Aspen Ideas Festival, June 22-28, 2019. With ongoing support and $1,000 in funding, student and educator teams launch local community change projects that align their unique passion with a community need. Applications are due February 8, 2019.

1/23 Gen-I NOW: STEP-UP Program

The STEP-UP Program is a federally funded program managed and supported by the Office of Minority Health Research Coordination (OMHRC) in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The overall goal of STEP-UP is to build and sustain a biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social science research pipeline focused on NIDDK’s core mission areas of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic diseases; digestive diseases and nutrition; kidney, urologic and hematologic diseases.

Gen-I #OptOutside Call to Action

This month, the Center for Native American Youth in partnership with REI is starting our #OptOutside Call to Action. Meant to help showcase how Native youth interact, use, and view nature and the outdoors, we are asking for your help. Show us how you #OptOutside! With a short video or picture tell us why is nature is important to you, and why it’s important to your culture. We hope this serves as an outlet to be creative and have some fun in the name of Gen-I!
