Kendra Becenti

Haas Center Fellow

Kendra Becenti is joining the CNAY team for the 2019 summer as a Haas Center Fellow. She is Diné (Navajo) from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kendra currently attends Stanford University where she is working towards a B.A. in Sociology and Native American Studies. She is also a recipient of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship.

Her time with CNAY will focus on the issues Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirits face. Kendra has hosted panels on her college campus about the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). She will be expanding and continuing this work by creating a report and roundtable on MMIW and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). In addition, Kendra will also help support other CNAY programs throughout the summer.

Kendra is excited to work with CNAY in a space that centers around Native youth. As a Native woman who grew up in an urban area, she believes that Indigenous youth everywhere should have equal and accessible opportunities to safely live and thrive.
