As a Native artist, I take pride in my culture and do as many projects to implement the beauty of my people through brushes and acrylic paints. Painting is not only one of my skills, but also a tool I use to express words I cannot convey through my academic writings. I hope that with my art, that one day, I will able to create masterpieces that reach people with my messages.
As a Native youth, I have found that belonging in this generation has been difficult, especially with what’s going on in our current world. I always ask myself if I’m a Native that’s apart of a living culture, or merely a descendant with an ancestry. Because of this, I’m able to recognize myself as a Native youth that knows that with my people, I belong as I take part in carrying on my culture and language. With my art, I have used my skills as an artist to convey messages of my people that we’re still here.
