My artist name is Nasbah Minicows. I’m from the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona. Creating art is one of the few things that truly brings me peace. I try to incorporate a story in each of my works. I mainly work with colored pencils, but I also enjoy doing digital works. I have dreams of building a studio alongside a house back home on the reservation. I also dream of having at least 10 dogs, 1 donkey, a horse and a flock of chickens, in addition to my sheep and cows.
What is most sacred to me is my peace. I was told early on that the women of my family are what pushed us forward and ensured our survival all the way back to our early ancestor, a woman who made it back from the Long Walk. The stars around her represent the four sacred mountains she and many others had to leave behind. Her prayers to make it home alongside her grit and determination are what blessed me with being here today. I wanted to depict my home, my own paradise and the source of my peace.
