I am Dana’angokwe, a 15 year old artist from New York. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I am a very shy person but I thought this would be a good way to get my art out there and get noticed for my art. I recently started to learn more about my Native culture, and learning more about my traditions has made me incorporate more Native ideas into my art. I’m also proud to say I’ve used my art to help myself and help out my community. I hope you like my art.

In my piece, I made a drawing of a Native woman admiring herself with her traditional jewelry on. This represents how beautiful our native cultures and traditions are, and how important it is to stay in touch with our cultures so we don’t lose and forget who we are. We need to appreciate the beauty in ourselves and appreciate what makes us who we are. My drawing represents our sacred culture and traditions and all the beauty that is found in them. And I hope my art can inspire others to represent their culture in their own art too.
