Rami is an undergraduate studying Astrophysics and Environmental Studies. Over the summer, they interned at Northside Workshop, a Native bee sanctuary and art studio. There, they explored their beadwork with new materials while helping out in the garden. Outside of beadwork, Rami likes to sketch, read, and decorate their walls with cool prints and posters.

Path Layers was an art project produced under Northside Workshop. It was inspired by the layers of the paths used in the garden: cardboard, coffee bags and wood chip. The materials used in pathlaying reminded me of beadwork, with cardboard for backing, coffee bags instead of felt, and beads instead of wood chip. The image depicted is a pictograph on Shuswap lake, representing the sunrise over a pit house. The colors and shape are that of my Dad’s beading kit, which was a blue circle with orange edges. I believe it is sacred to recreate past art with current materials.
