2026 Remembering Our Sisters Fellow

Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe

Precious Anneliese Cook (she/her) is a 19-year-old member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe with deep roots in the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ. She represents the Mnicoujou and Itázipčo bands of the Thítȟuŋwaŋ Lakota and belongs to the Taniga Unwohan (Cooks With Guts) and Wakinyan Maza (Iron Lightning) tiospayes. Precious carries the name Waŋblí Glešká Wiŋ (“Spotted Eagle Woman”), passed down from her father, Jessie Wallace Cook, Waŋblí Glešká. Raised on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Eagle Butte, SD, Precious was immersed in Lakota culture from a young age. She has danced her entire life, first entering the powwow circle in Tiny Tots Jingle. She later transitioned into Women’s Northern Traditional Cloth, which remains a source of healing and a vital connection to her family, ancestors and culture.

Precious has proudly served her community through multiple Tribal royalty titles, including Jr. Miss Cheyenne River (2019-2023) and Miss Cheyenne River (2023-2024). She was also a four-year varsity cheerleader at Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School, earning honors such as Most Valuable, Most Dedicated and Best Role Model. She currently holds the title of Miss He Sapa Win. Her advocacy began early, including involvement at the Oceti Sakowin Camp during the #NoDAPL movement and assisting in the recovery of a historic saddle belonging to her ancestor, Chief Iron Lightning. Inspired by the loss of her father in 2016, Precious plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice and become a detective, while continuing her advocacy for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People.
