Phoenix Thomas

2026 Remembering Our Sisters

Mohawks of Akwesasne

Phoenix Thomas (she/her) is from Akwesasne, NY, and works at a small family-owned cafe. She is currently a part of the Lead Auntie and Uncle Council for Oherokon (under the husk) Rites of Passage. Phoenix went through the program that taught survival skills, cultural lessons and leadership skills, always welcoming others and teaching them the way of the Mohawk people. Since completing this in 2023, Phoenix has become an auntie to her two little sisters, who are still going through the Rites of Passage Program. In 2025 Phoenix competed in the Miss Indian World pageant in Albuquerque, NM.

Phoenix found her voice and drive to create change in her community with the Close Up Program in Washington, DC, during her senior year of high school. In her free time, Phoenix enjoys creating clothing and working on different art projects, mixing her cultural background with a modern twist.
