My name is Danielle Baker and I come from the Apache, Navajo, Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara and Rocky Boy Cree tribes. My clans are Cottonwood People, Towering House, Prairie Chicken Clan and I am a child of Dripping Dirt. My Indian name is Pīyēsō Iskwēw, which means Thunderbird Woman. I’m currently a student at Arizona State University working towards my bachelors in criminology and criminal justice.
This photo was taken at Pechanga Powwow 2025 in California. I come from a powwow family and have always been surrounded by that circle, so for us, dancing and singing is sacred. The sounds of the drum bring us together, and that’s the most beautiful thing about getting to experience powwows.
