My name is Grace Burnette, and I am from the White Mountain Apache Tribe fully, and half Northern Cheyenne. Growing up I have always had an eye for creating, from drawing stories from stick figures, to creating flip books and making stories with them! I have grown up watching cartoons and even thought, “hey, I want to create a cartoon someday!” I have also had a spark for being on the stage and acting and voice acting! I want to create Artworks featuring where I grew up, which is on the reservation and represent my tribe and heritage!
Life is sacred to me. The connections we make, the memories we share, even when we are young and born small, that’s when it all begins. I wanted to draw a piece of a young Native girl admiring a flower that is just starting to bloom. She admires the life it has, the beautiful flower it will grow to be. The black and white in the background symbolizes that the life around us, the world we live in, is beautiful. But as we take the time to be with loved ones, see them grow, nothing compares to that moment.
