At the April 2026 NCNAYO Workshop held in Lumbee homelands, Jada presented to an intertribal group of Native youth on climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and the role of Native youth as leaders and connectors within their tribal communities. The workshop created space for participants to reflect on past climate-related events, discuss how tribal policies impact community safety, and explore ways to strengthen environmental protections for future generations.
As part of the workshop, 60 emergency go-bags were assembled for participants and their loved ones to support personal and family preparedness during severe weather events, flooding, and power outages. Supplies included hand-crank radios, flashlights, hygiene products, and other essential disaster-response materials, along with guidance on protecting important documents and cultural items. Through hands-on participation, youth connected emergency preparedness to their everyday realities and left with practical tools to support resilience within their homes and communities.
Climate Resilient Nations: Protecting Our Homelands & Communities is a youth-centered workshop focused on equipping Native youth across North Carolina with disaster preparedness skills while honoring traditional ecological knowledge, cultural resilience, and community leadership.
