Jeremiah Nunnelee

2025 Democracy is Indigenous Organizer

Visalia, CA

This community service initiative focused on supporting Native American families in Central California by providing healthy food supplies and holiday gift bags to families experiencing food insecurity. The project distributed three bags of nutrient-dense food items to six families, including fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and supplementary pantry staples.

The initiative began with discussions between Native youth Jeremiah Nunnelee’s mother and community liaisons to identify recipient families and coordinate distribution logistics. When funding was secured careful consideration was given to selecting nutritious food options that would support healthy eating habits within the local Native American community. During the execution phase, two volunteers sorted and packaged food items, organized delivery routes, ensured transportation readiness, and safely distributed the supplies to registered families.

The project successfully provided meaningful support to participating families by supplementing weekly food needs, promoting healthier diets, and strengthening community connections through a culturally sensitive and community-centered approach. Feedback from recipients highlighted appreciation for the quality and freshness of the food provided, particularly the inclusion of fresh produce and whole grains. Overall, the initiative demonstrated the positive impact of targeted community service efforts in addressing food insecurity and fostering solidarity within the Native American community.
