Yá’át’ééh shik’ei dóó shidiné’é, my name is Kaya Dickson, Yé’ii Dine’é Táchii’nii nishłi, Tsé Deeshgíízhíníí bashishchiin, Naakaiiłbáhí dashicheii, Ma’ii Deeshgíízhíníí dashnali. Kaya Dickson (she/her) is Giant Red Running Into Water clan, born for the Gap Rock clan. Her maternal grandfather is of Spanish descent, and her paternal grandfather is of the Coyote Pass clan. Kaya is originally from Kaibeto, AZ, but grew up in Page, AZ. She is a recent graduate from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a minor in Criminology & Criminal Justice.
Kaya broadened her perspectives and skills through numerous opportunities in research, conservation and volunteer work. Whether that be analyzing legal documentation regarding ancestral connections to the Anteope Canyon, connecting with the land on Bears Ears National Monument, learning environmental advocacy skills with the Grand Canyon Trust, empowering Indigenous youth within health and community through the Hózhó Horizons Youth Council, or honoring our cultural identity in education with the Page Indian Education Program, her passions will always include representing and creating pathways for Indigenous communities.
