My name is Kylie Mehojah. I am a member of the Kaw Nation, and I am twenty-one years old. I am currently a sophomore at Haskell Indian University, studying Native American Indigenous Studies. Haskell has given me the opportunity to return to my roots. Since my time at Haskell, this art piece has been selected to be in the Spencer Art Museum. I have learned to bead and have returned back to the drum and returned back to Southern Cloth Dancing.
In my sketch of The Sacred Red Rock, you will find a circle shaded at the top of the paper, representing my great-grandfather, William A. Mehojah, Mikak’ehinga, translating to Little Star. The art piece features our sacred grandfather rock, as well as the sacred relationship between my biological great-grandfather and me.
