This project used the DII micro grant to purchase shelf-stable dried and canned food items for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Funding focused on high-demand, nutrient-dense staples such as canned proteins, vegetables, fruits, soups, rice, pasta, and dry beans to help provide balanced and filling meals. The purchased food supported emergency distributions and assisted households facing economic hardship, rising food costs, and temporary crises. Through this investment, the project strengthened food security, promoted health and well-being, and helped build community resilience by ensuring reliable access to essential nutrition.
The food bank project had a direct and meaningful impact on the Tribal community by providing staples for families experiencing food insecurity. Elders, families with children, and vulnerable households were able to meet basic nutritional needs without having to choose between food and other essential expenses such as utilities, housing, or transportation.
