Panruk Apaliq Helen John is from Anchorage, Alaska. Helen is Yup’ik and Inupaiq, and enrolled with the Nunakauyarmuit tribe in Toksook Bay, Alaska. Helen was born in Anchorage and raised in Mamterilleq, also known as Bethel. Bethel is a hub for surrounding villages off the Kuskokwim River and other villages off the coast of Western Alaska. She is joining our team as an Intern for the next few months. Helen will be working with our Youth Advisory Board on our policy platform, covering various legislation on the Hill, and working towards organizing a roundtable discussion.

She is a current participant of the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP) at the George Washington University here in Washington, DC. Upon completing her Internship with CNAY and semester program at GW, Helen will be graduating with a BA in Political Science with a minor in American Indian studies from the Central Washington University.
