Native Youth Orgs Join Forces for Native Youth Communications Boot Camp

On July 10, the Center for Native American Youth, We R Native, and United National Indian Tribal Youth, Inc. (UNITY) hosted a Communications Bootcamp in conjunction with UNITY’s annual conference. The 4-hour afternoon session gave Native youth a crash course in using various forms of media to share stories about youth-led community impact. Youth  worked together in small groups to identify a theme and focus for their respective campaigns. Next, they cycled through three different learning stations, exploring effective strategies for using video, social media, and traditional media to highlight their own grassroots efforts. Youth left the session with a head start on their campaigns, practical tools to expand their campaign’s reach, and a group of supportive peers who will keep one another accountable.

The Bootcamp reflects the effort of all three host organizations to provide Native youth the tools and training necessary to raise awareness about community challenges and galvanize support for their advocacy initiatives. Click here for more photos from the event.
