THREE AFFILIATED TRIBES
AGE: 14
I paint using acrylics and incorporate visual indigenous items in my work. My recent painting was selected to hang at North Dakota Senator John Hoeven’s office. I have received 3rd place in the Badlands Art Show in my age category for acrylic painting, 2017; Purple Award, Dunn County for photography; 1st place in the Badlands Art Show in my age category for acrylic painting, 2016. My 2017 piece was sold and is now hanging in a community center in Wisconsin. My influence is my heritage. My art teacher created a personal space just for me. I live in ND.
This piece is titled Montana Majesty. It is from a photo that was taken outside of Yellowstone National Park. The majesty is not from the grandeur of the mountains as some might think, it’s from all that the bison once were and represented to us as indigenous people. I challenge people to see that we once walked in concert and harmony with the land and all that was in it. Stereotypes remind us that there are multitudes of problems that we face, but our history does not tell the whole story, there is also beauty.
