I’m Kylee Nahquaddy from Belcourt, ND. I’m apart of The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. I love to make jewelry. I also upcycle clothes, paint, clay and so much more. Anything I put my mind too I can do. I pick up many mediums because I love to do all kinds of art. I came to Kansas to go to college at Haskell Indian Nations University. At school I started to do upcycling and jewelry. Upcycling clothes and making jewelry are my main mediums right now.
This piece is amethyst crystals and beading necklace. The first part is an amethyst crystal carving as a moon. The bottom part is a beaded moon. The moon in my culture is called grandmother moon. Every month a different moon comes and tells us what we can plant. The moon is also feminine. Women get moon time and it’s a spiritual time for women. During moontime women are more connected to creator. The way my piece connects to the moon is its elegance and its beauty. The way the necklace lays and moves is beautiful and ethereal.
