IGIUGIG NATIVE TRIBE
AGE: 23
My name is Sharolynn Zackar but my Yupik name is Mingqista (meaning person who uses a needle(sews)). I come from the little remote village of Igiugig, Alaska population 67. I have many different cultures in my blood including Athabascan, Yupik, Tlingit, and a few others. Through my art I try to Cary what my ancestors made through they years so this knowledge would not be lost. I mainly make yupik art because I grew up in a yupik village. I love making things and bringing them to life, art is my favorite thing to do.
My art piece name is Little girl learning to hunt. She made from many different things. I am trying to make sure this artwork dose not get lost. Only about 20 people around my area still make these dolls. My village is trying to decolinize ourselves. We are leaving our language again and learning many things that our ancestors did.
