NARRAGANSETT
AGE: 18
As a member of the Narragansett’s Turtle Clan (Storytellers) I present my stories to the world. Stories of both my cultural and personal history glimmer through each piece. Intertwining stories of my cultural path with my Two-Spirit identity, I work to evoke emotions within audiences that spark dialogue regarding ideologies that are often silenced. My efforts oppose the prolonged issue of Indigenous Invisibility. Allowing my stories to manifest through writing, performance, and visual art, I can expand the audience of my message, educating and creating change within my communities. Sherenté will attend Brown University and RISD for a dual degree.
Looking Towards Creation When I first abandoned the space of my mother, my face was lifted upwards towards heavenly creation. All people are founded upon a similar experience. The transaction between isolation and unification begins once we leave the womb, but continues throughout our lives. Recognizing that transaction has brought a greater awareness to my thoughts and feelings, providing balance.

Peering Past the Surface / Self Portrait The heartbeat of my ancestors rumbles behind my breast. Each time I peer at my reflection in the crisp waters of existence, I can see the voices of my grandmothers, cascading through the tapestry of my being.
